ADAC GT Masters Oschersleben: SSR performance with outstanding victory in Oschersleben
With a lead of more than 22 seconds, Michael Ammermüller (GER) and Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) secured victory in the second ADAC GT Masters race in Oschersleben. Together with the seventh place in the previous day’s race, SSR Performance collected important points for the championship.
– 7th place in the first race on Saturday
– Pole position for the race on Sunday
– Victory in the second race
Race 1
After SSR Performance was one of the favorites in the field with four top 3 placements in Thursday’s test, the hopes for qualifying were correspondingly high. But an interruption of the session thwarted the Munich team’s plans. Michael Ammermüller had to start the race from the seventh row on the grid.
SSR Performance was able to take advantage of the one-hour race and delivered an exciting race to catch up, which was ultimately rewarded with seventh place and valuable points for the championship.
Race 2
The second race of the ADAC GT Masters season was tough due to rain showers before the start. Mathieu Jaminet handed the car over to his teammate Michael Ammermüller, who was in second position, taking over the Porsche 911 GT3 R # 92 on slicks. Even though some positions had to be given up initially, the decision to switch to slicks and the team’s fault-free pit stop proved to be expedient. The reigning champion delivered one exciting overtaking maneuver after the other. In the end, he crossed the finish line of the race with a lead of more than 22 seconds as the winner.
The weekend in Oschersleben was also very positive for the young talent Laurin Heinrich. With a third and first place, he celebrated considerable success in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. Congratulations!
The second ADAC GT Masters weekend will take place from June 11th to 13th at the Red Bull Ring, Austria.
Wolfgang Hatz, Team Principal SSR Performance
“The plan for today was to drive pole and ideally also to defend P1. Unfortunately, this wasn’t entirely possible due to the rain. But we knew it was likely that the second half of the race would be dry. Because of our strategy, we were able to achieve our goal relatively easily. It was a very successful weekend for us! ”
Stefan Schlund, team owner SSR Performance
“After the pole position you think that you can drive home the race with a good performance. Then the rain sets in just in time for the start, so of course everything was open. I certainly got some gray hair today – now I’m overwhelmed that we were rewarded with the win. ”
Michael Ammermüller, SSR Performance driver
“The second race in particular was something very special for us. We knew that in the rain it would not be easy to defend our position. Mathieu made the gold-right decision by pointing out slicks. That was the first time for this team that we changed tires in the race. Nobody made a mistake and so we are very happy to have won this difficult race. It was one of the best races we’ve ever had! ”
Mathieu Jaminet, SSR Performance driver
“It was a gamble in the first corner that we passed. After the safety car phase, the Mercedes had a better grip and so I had to give up a place. At the end of the stint we were very fast and made the right decision to switch to slicks at the pit stop. We were one of the few vehicles in the top 10 to change tires. The team did a great job all weekend! ”
